The cross-border nature of FGM, with girls being taken into Tanzania to avoid Kenya’s ban, highlights the urgent need for intervention in these areas. #FrontlineEndingFGM, leveraging five years of strong cross-border activist networks, prioritizes these regions.

Regional Prevalence and Progress
While Tanzania as a country has seen a decrease in FGM prevalence among women aged 15-49 (from 18% in 1996 to 8% in 2022), significant regional disparities persist.
High-prevalence regions where mass cuttings take place include:
- Manyara (57.7%)
- Dodoma (46.7%)
- Arusha (41%)
- Mara/Kuria Region (32%)
- Singida (30.9%)
- Tanga (19%)
- Iringa (12%)
- Morogoro (10%)
#FrontlineEndingFGM has established a strong presence in the Kuria/Mara region and is expanding its efforts.

Five key Tanzanian NGOs are leading the BornPerfect Campaign, building on joint BornPerfect Academy training sessions held in 2023 and 2024 with #FrontlineKenya.

- 45 GBV survivors trained in Tree of Life (ToL)
- 200,000 schoolchildren sensitized on FGM and GBV
