Tanzania Campaign

Tanzania, bordering Kenya’s southwest regions, presents a crucial extension for the upcoming Born Perfect Campaign. The cross-border nature of FGM, with girls being taken into Tanzania to avoid Kenya’s ban, highlights the urgent need for intervention in these areas. #FrontlineEndingFGM, leveraging five years of strong cross-border activist networks, prioritizes these regions.

Regional Prevalence and Progress

While Tanzania as a country has seen a decrease in FGM prevalence among women aged 15-49 (from 18% in 1996 to 8% in 2022), significant regional disparities persist.
High-prevalence regions where mass cuttings take place include:
